September Edition

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Holidays & Social Content Calendar

What’s Inside the Diversity Calendar?

Welcome to our September diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) Holiday & Content Social Guide! Inside, you'll find holidays, celebrations, and observances celebrated this month and how to raise awareness about them across your social channels. Because in most business settings, the same holidays are centered and celebrated, this guide seeks to normalize recognizing a variety of holidays and learning more about them. To help you on your way, we'll share ideas for content and some things to avoid.

In this guide, you will find:

  • A list of monthly & daily celebrations to consider
  • Ideas for content and official hashtags
  • Curated resources for additional reading and education

We recommend before you start posting, take a moment and reflect: Does your organization have a commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion In the Workplace? If you're unsure, take the Diversity & Inclusion Self-Assessment to gauge where your organization falls on the diversity & inclusion maturity model. After taking the assessment, set an intention to reflect on how you will raise awareness beyond the post and consider the impact you want to make.

If you're wondering why we asked you to pause and consider, it's because recognizing these holidays and observances should be done with intentionality. When we only acknowledge a community once a year, it can feel as though it's performative allyship. Instead of performative allyship, we want to practice true allyship. Allyship is a lifelong process, 365 days a year, and means centering the issue and the humans involved, not one's self.

With that, we hope this guide opens your eyes to new holidays and events you weren't previously aware of or creates an opportunity to learn more about the holidays and cultures celebrated.
